WA Dads Prayer
All Wheaton Academy dads are invited to join together to pray for our students and our school on the second Saturday of each month. The first Dads Prayer time is scheduled for Saturday, September 10 from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. in the historic white Chapel and is hosted by a member of the WA administrative team. Dads will be introduced to a different faculty/staff guest each month who will share some prayer needs from a WA employee’s perspective. The guest for September is Steve Bult, WA principal. Light refreshments are served. Quiz Bowl/Trivia Team at WA!
Openings are available for any student, freshman through senior, to join the Quiz Bowl team. If you like trivia (team-style), this is for you! The team competes against other schools (home or away) one night each week in November and also travels around northern Illinois competing in several all-day Saturday tournaments from late October through the first week of March (roughly one tourney per month). The practice schedule is flexible to fit the needs of fall athletes. Quiz Bowl players choose ONE (or more, if desired) of the following practice times each week: Wednesday 3:15-4:45 p.m., Thursday 11:15-11:50 a.m., or Friday 7:00-7:45 a.m. Click here

Prayer and Volunteering
The volunteer introduction this year is themed "Power of Prayer." All WA moms are invited to an evening of prayer and a preview of volunteer opportunities on September 6 at 6:00 p.m. We will have time for prayer, food, fellowship, and, lastly, time to sign up to volunteer. Early Decision Applications
Do you know of a new student who is interested in Wheaton Academy? Early Decision Applications for the 2012-2013 school year will be available on the Wheaton Academy website beginning Saturday, October 1.
20 Minute Tours
Every Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. 20-minute tours will leave from the Front Office. Please call the Admissions Office at 630-562-7501 if you are planning to join us for a Tuesday morning tour.
WA Guys Campout
The guys campout is September 16-18. All guys are welcome. Signup and information is available in Kevin McDonell’s office (upper Library loft).
Free Football Game Admission for Middle School Student Families - September 23
On Friday, September 23 the Wheaton Academy Admissions Office will be offering free admission to the Warrior Varsity football game at Wheaton College for families with middle school students. The first 200 middle school students to arrive at the game before 7:30 p.m. will also receive a voucher for a FREE hot dog and drink. There will be special recognition of all of our middle school students in attendance. Don't forget to wear maroon! No reservations are neccesary to attend this event.
Applications are now available for students to be involved in Student Government. Students can apply to be class officers and have the opportunity to represent their class. Class officers will be responsible for planning class activites, including chapel, service opportunities, and class parties. Students can also be a part of student council which allows them to serve the entire student body, organize schoolwide events, and represent the student body to the administration. Reminder about the Peanut/Tree Nut Policy
Please remember the Peanut/Tree Nut Policy at Wheaton Academy. The ONLY place that peanuts/nuts can be eaten here at school is at the four marked tables in the Commons. As you prepare for school, please remind your students. We have several students with severe nut allergies and we want to make WA a safe place for everyone.
Underclassmen Picture Retakes
If your son or daughter was not able to get their picture taken on August 19 or they want to get their picture retaken, they can do so on September 26. Lifetouch Photographers will be at Wheaton Academy for picture retakes on September 26 from 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. in the Atrium. If your student has not had their picture taken, please be sure that he or she gets their picture taken on September 26 so they can be included in the yearbook. Senior Picture Retakes
If your son or daughter needs to have their senior picture taken or retaken, Prestige Portraits will be at Wheaton Academy on October 24 and 25 from 3:00-9:00 p.m. in the Library. If you need a senior picture retaken, please set up an appointment by calling Prestige Portraits at 800-797-7571. If your student has not had their picture taken, please be sure that he or she gets their picture taken so they can be included in the yearbook. . If you are planning to do an internship, please make contact with prospective internship hosts. In addition to the contacts you may have in the Chicagoland area, be mindful of those contacts you have outside the area. Whether it is a grandparent, former neighbor, cousin, older brother/sister, or just a business contact, most opportunities for internships come from personal contacts. Go West Young Man Winterim Trip
The Go West Young Man trip still has a couple of spots available! It’s open to any of the guys at Wheaton Academy who desire to take an adventure trip to Colorado. During our time in Colorado, we will be doing missions work, skiing in the mountains, hiking, and studying how we can mature in our walk with Christ. French Exchange Program Informational Parent Meeting - Tuesday, September 6
Wheaton Academy students will have the opportunity to participate in a French Exchange program in the spring of 2012. WA students will host a French student in April for two weeks and then WA students will travel to France at the end of May. Any student interested in this program should contact Lynnette Lang
via email. French students do have priority but all students will be given consideration. Students who participate in this exchange will be challenged intellectually, spiritually, and culturally during this month-long exchange program. This exchage is an opportunity for serious hands-on global learning in a well supervised environment. There will be a parent information meeting on Tuesday, September 6 at 6:15 p.m. in Room 107.
Parking Permit Forms 2011-2012
Parking permit forms for the 2011-2012 school year can be downloaded on the Wheaton Academy website. Go to the Parent
portals in the upper right corner of the home page and click on Forms and Documents.
Lunch tickets are available from our receptionist, Dara Fernandes. Students will be able to purchase tickets before and after school. Parents may purchase tickets anytime the Front Office is open.
Our lunch ticket prices are as follows:Packet of 20 tickets: $85
Individual Tickets: $4.75

Annual Asbestos Notice from Rodney Dunham, Head of Maintenance
This notice meets a legal requirement to inform you annually that Wheaton Academy continues to meet all federal and state laws concerning asbestos in schools. All of our educational facilities have been thoroughly inspected, and inspections continue bi-annually by a state-certified asbestos firm, as is required by law. We continue to carry out all other specific requirements of the “AHERA” legislation, including the maintenance of a management plan. Our management plan is available for your review in the Business Office located in the Armour Building during normal business hours. We welcome your questions and input as we continue to meet the necessary requirements and seek to implement any necessary precautions.
Did you know that Wheaton Academy offers seminars for parents? We cover topics such as choosing the right college, understanding ADHD, what standardized testing means and much more. If you wish to attend any of our seminars R.S.V.P. to Seminars@wheatonacademy.org so we have enough seating and handouts.

The first seminar is September 17 from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. and the topic is "Student Support at Wheaton Academy." The seminar will be presented by Anne Case, Student Services and Lori Entzminger, Educational Therapy Coordinator. This session will discuss educational support, special needs resources and options for creative curriculum at Wheaton Academy. Topics will include placement process, NILD, Reading for Success, Cogmed, peer tutoring, Resource Study Hall and counseling services.

Looking Ahead to the PSAT
This fall the PSAT will be administered on Saturday, October 15. The test is optional and open to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Information is being emailed to parents, with a registration deadline of September 15. An online PSAT prep course is available for $40. Contact Dan Crabtree

Wheaton Academy Boys Lacrosse Information Meeting - September 7
A Wheaton Academy Boys Lacrosse information meeting will be held Wednesday, September 7 during the combined lunch hour (12:45 – 1:25 p.m.) in Coach Jeff Brooke's classroom (Field House Maroon Room). This meeting is for all boys interested in playing lacrosse for Wheaton Academy in the spring of 2012. Wheaton Lacrosse t-shirts will be on sale ($10 shirt) and players will receive information about off-season conditioning and lacrosse equipment. All players interested in playing spring lacrosse must attend.
WA Girls Training Camp
Attention all girls! Improve your speed, agility, strength, core, and vertical jump in this fall's training camp. Workouts will be held September 12 - October 19 on Mondays from 3:15-4:15 p.m. and Wednesdays 4:15-5:15 p.m. The camp is open to ALL girls with sports or conditioning interests (Fitness For Life students welcome too!). In addition to a membership gift, members in the Maroon and Warrior Clubs receive family passes that allow them and their immediate family to get FREE entrance to WA home sporting events when a gate fee is charged. This applies to all regular season 2011-2012 home games.
The Warrior Booster Club’s purpose is to provide a quality environment for our athletes to pursue their talents and to grow in their faith through a variety of initiatives and targeted funding. We will continue to work with the Athletic Department and coaches to identify needs and priorities.
