2012 Course Request Approval Form – Due TODAY Friday, March 23
Course request approval forms were mailed home this week. Be sure to read the instructions and change policy carefully, then sign and return the original to Student Services by TODAY, Friday, March 23. Keep the copy for your records. Signed originals can be faxed (no cover sheet required) to 630-562-2823 or dropped off before you begin your well-needed Spring Break.

Summer Academy Classes are filling up!
If your student is interested in taking a class this summer, there are a few spots still available. Starting April 2, enrollment will require a full payment – no deposits will be accepted. Balances will be billed through FACTS. Information and registration is available under the Registration button on the WA home page. As courses become full, we will list the course as “closed” on the website.

WA Alumnus, Jason Burkey ’03, stars in October Baby
Opening in theaters today, October Baby is a wonderfully told story based on the pro-life theme that every life is beautiful.
WA alumnus Jason Burkey ’03 plays Jason Bradley, the long-time friend of Hannah Lawson, the main character.

Refrigerator Needed!
The Fine Arts Center refrigerator is at the end of its days, and we are looking for a replacement! If you have a second hand fridge that is in good working order and would like to donate it, please contact Melissa Euler to arrange for that. Thanks so much!! 

NEW – WA Video Store
The WA Video Store opened last month, and already we have additions to the video library. Recently added are Mr. WA videos from '09, '10 and '11; LEAST 2010; and the Percussion performance from May 2011. Also up there from the past is the WA 2011 Commencement, last November's Evening in the Furnace, and the Christmas Concert from three months ago. Nearly all the video downloads are $5 for the entire show, and each purchase can be downloaded up to three times. Spring Golf Outing
Register now for the Alumni & Friends Booster Scramble! The golf outing will be held on Thursday, May 24 at Mill Creek Golf Club in Geneva. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. and shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Join us for lunch, a putting contest, four-person scramble, and a buffet dinner with special prizes and awards. Individual golfer - $125; Individual Young Alumni golfer (graduates of 2001-2011) - $100; and Foursome - $500. Invite a few of your friends or coworkers for a great day of golf! Worship Team 2012-2013 Auditions
Worship Team applications and recommendations are now available from Mr. Jasper's room (Academy Hall room 119) or by clicking here. Applications and recommendations are due to Mr. Jasper by 3 p.m. on Monday, April 23. Auditions will be held Wednesday, April 25, from 6-9 p.m.

Wheaton Academy Concert Choir -- link to Kennedy Center concert
Click here to watch the WA Concert Choir's concert on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center while they were touring in Washington, D.C. This was a huge honor and wonderful opportunity to share their faith and music on a national and internation (online) stage. Director Joel Visker has already received an encouraging email from someone in Belgium who saw the concert online! 

Reminder of Wheaton Academy Appearance Code
As warm weather is here a bit early, please keep in mind the student Appearance Code at Wheaton Academy. Parents, please remind your student(s) of these guidelines.
   ++  The general guideline for the length of skirts and dresses must be modest and touch the knee. Shorts do not need to reach the knee, but must be modest. An inseam of 4” or greater would be considered modest at Wheaton Academy. Skirts and dresses worn with leggings do not need to reach the knee but should not be much shorter and must always be modest.
   ++  Clothing should completely cover undergarments and necessary parts of the body at all times. Boys and girls both should take care to wear modest clothing styles that consistently cover their midsections while standing in a normal posture. Tank tops for girls or boys are not acceptable school attire. Girls may wear sleeveless shirts or dresses that are modest and fully cover the shoulder.

Prospective Family Night
We invite all parents and students to our upcoming Prospective Family Night on Monday, April 9 beginning at 7:00 p.m. This will be a great opportunity for 7th and 8th grade students as well as prospective transfer student families to learn about Wheaton Academy. The evening will begin with a panel discussion followed by mini-session presentations and a co-curricular fair. Student-led tours will be available as well as opportunities to visit with administrators and faculty. No reservations are necessary; please contact the Admissions Office with questions at (630) 562-7501.

International Host Family Information Session
An informative session on the international student program and host family opportunities will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, in the Fieldhouse classroom. If you are interested in this opportunity, you are encouraged to attend.

Driver's Education Course
In an effort to accommodate student schedules and extracurricular activities, Excel Driving School is now offering after school driver’s education courses at Wheaton Academy. Two courses will be offered each semester that will run on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. The next available session will run from April 2 to May 3. We are pleased to offer two different seminars on April 21. These will be our last Parent Seminars for the 2011-2012 school year.

   ++ April 21 - ADHD, Executive Function, and Working Memory
Presented by: Chris Mazzarella, Psy.D., LCPC, Heritage Professional Associates.
Explore the meaning of ADHD and Executive Functioning problems and how working memory deficits may explain why your child underachieves in school or has difficulty performing essential tasks such as following directions, paying attention, staying focused, self-control and/or time management. Learn about an exciting alternative to medication to treat these problems.

   ++ April 21 - So You Want to Play Sports in College?
Presented by: Dan Crabtree, WA College Counselor and Paul Ferguson, WA Athletic Director.
How does a student prepare to pursue sports in college? What should students and parents know? NCAA and NAIA guidelines and procedures will be discussed.

Freshman Academy
June 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 and 28 (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
6:00-7:30 p.m.
Cost: $285.00 for the entire course

At Wheaton Academy, we are committed to helping students grow in relationships, excellence, and service to the glory of God. Freshman Academy was created to be an integral part of Wheaton Academy’s mission by providing incoming freshmen support and encouragement in their transition to high school. Attending Freshman Academy will provide freshman students with the critical skills to succeed academically, socially, and spiritually while attending Wheaton Academy.

Freshman Academy is six sessions (two sessions per week) for approximately 1.5 hours each session. Each week will focus on a specific aspect of the freshman year, with a specific focus on the academic, social, and spiritual expectations of being a Wheaton Academy student.

Junior meetings
Junior meetings have begun. Parents have been emailed an online questionnaire that needs to be completed prior to scheduling a junior meeting. Parents, please complete your questionnaire right away. Contact Dan Crabtree with any questions.

ACT info
Wheaton Academy is a test center for the April 14 ACT. It is still possible to register (with a late fee). The next ACT date is June 9. Registration for the test is done through http://www.act.org.

Local scholarships
Local scholarships can be found in the College & Career section of the WA website. One of the new scholarships listed this week is the West Chicago Lions Club Scholarship, open to seniors residing in West Chicago. It has a May 18 deadline.

Summer Internship Available
WA parents: Do you have (or know) a sophomore or junior in college, majoring in computer science or related field, and looking for a paid summer internship? AT&T is looking for an intern for ten weeks this summer. For more information, contact Dan Crabtree
