Asian Film - Dian Ying! (Sounds like Dee-In Eeng)
Loretta Bjorvik
Dian Ying is “Movie” in Mandarin. What do the films “One Missed Call”, “Bangkok Dangerous”, “The Lake House”, and “Shall We Dance” have in common? All four of those movies were adapted for the American screen from Asian films. The class will focus on the many genres spanning the Asian Film Industry and ponder why Hollywood has recently been looking to Asian Cinema for its content and inspiration. Students should come prepared not only to be entertained, but also to think and discuss. NOTE: While every effort will be made to keep films in the PG-13 realm, due to the candid portrayals of foreign film, and the absence of US Ratings, some films may contain some adult (and WA approved) content.
