Alex Pavlisin - Class of 2007
My favorite part of my Wheaton Academy education has been experiencing faith bleed into every aspect of life, be it academics, athletics, music, or student government. I have benefited tremendously from seeing teachers model excellence and simultaneously pursue faith in Christ. History teachers portray events moderately, always cognizant of different perspectives and God’s sovereignty (as a result I love history and plan to pursue it at a competitive liberal arts college). My varsity soccer coach is passionate about serving AIDS orphans and upholds Christian values while coaching, but also maintains incredible excellence on the field. My band instructors routinely schedule performances at convalescent centers and send musicians to compete at the district and state levels every year.
Teachers care about the whole person, who may have diverse interests, allowing students to try multiple extracurriculars. Several teachers have become family friends, and I feel completely comfortable calling their cell phones or picking their brain over lunch. A few have even taken students on mission trips; during Winterim over the past four years, I have had the privilege of laying the foundation of a school in the Dominican Republic, touring Austria/Hungary with other musicians, and holding soccer clinics for AIDS orphans in Zambia. My sister and many of my friends have had similar positive experiences with the integration of faith and learning at WA.
Jana Polivka - Wheaton Academy Parent
Why did we choose Wheaton Academy? Really, we felt we had no choice. Our son, now a junior at WA, seemed to be out of place in middle school. We prayed for him constantly, but for what ever reason, unknown to us, God chose for him to just never fit in. As we started looking toward high school, Wheaton Academy kept coming to the forefront. Once, we applied and he interviewed, the Lord made it perfectly clear Wheaton Academy was the perfect place for our child. He has now completed two years and we could not be more pleased. It is as if Wheaton Academy was created for Caleb or Caleb was made for Wheaton Academy. He began to “fit in” almost instantly. Praise God!
We are so thankful for the teachers, the opportunities, the mentoring, and most of all the spiritual guidance Caleb has received. On the night of our “new parent orientation” Mr. Keith talked about how the teachers and parents were partners in this process or journey. We have experienced firsthand evidence of this partnership; I never need to worry about contacting a teacher with a concern or wondering if they will respond back to me. Each time this was merited, a quick, helpful response followed. We even had a teacher call us once in the middle of the day just to share how much they enjoyed having Caleb in their class. This is rare and made us even more grateful for him being at Wheaton Academy.
We now have our second child entering the halls of Wheaton Academy. Our daughter, Rebekah, starts as a freshman this fall. As soon as she began to see the influence and opportunities her brother was receiving, she began the “lobbying” to go to Wheaton Academy too. Little did she know our hearts were already there. Because of the goodness of the Lord, she and her brother will be attending Wheaton Academy next year. God is great and we are overjoyed at His plan for our kids. We look forward to yet another first-class year and countless days of enrichment at the Academy. To our family, Wheaton Academy is an answer to prayer and a blessing from God.
