Back to School Night - Tuesday, August 31 - 7:00 p.m.
All parents are encouraged to attend Back to School Night. You’ll hear briefly from Head of School Gene Frost and Principal Steve Bult in the Fine Arts Center auditorium. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit your child’s classes throughout the campus and hear from their teachers.

Back to School Night Treats Needed
We are still in need of some parent volunteers to provide treats for Back to School Night on August 31. If you are interested in helping, please contact Sofia Halcomb at sofia316@gmail.com or 630-842-4211.

All Moms Volunteer Tea

All Wheaton Academy moms are invited to the annual Volunteer Tea on September 8, starting at 1 p.m. in the Library. Please come and meet the moms from our WA community and see the many service opportunities that are available. We value your volunteerism and know that our school would not have our excellent programs without your help. See you there!

Yard Signs on Sale Now
Show your WA spirit by adorning your yard with a WA yard sign. Signs are available for drama and music, football, cross country, soccer, tennis, golf, volleyball, and cheerleading as well as a Warrior sign. Click here for an order form and to view a sampling of the signs. All orders are due TODAY. Questions? Contact Cheryl Dunham or Penny Lee at waboosters@wheatonacademy.org.

From the Health Office

If your student will carry medication while at school, please make sure that you have a signed Medication Administration Form. The forms are available on the Health Services page. Also, make sure you have a care plan if you had one last year. Please contact the nurse, Shari Gregersen, with questions or concerns at nurse@wheatonacademy.org or 630-562-7504.

Prayer and Praise
Each week WA emails the Prayer and Praise update with requests for prayer and items for praise from our faculty, staff and larger WA community.  We are privileged to have over 400 friends of Wheaton Academy who have joined this list and pray for these needs.  What a blessing to know that friends all over the country are praying for the ministry of Wheaton Academy in the lives of our young people and their families.  Email Barb Frost with your name and email address and she can add you to the group.

Attention Senior Parents

You should have received a letter containing information for this year's senior trip. We are very excited about this trip. Your response was due before August 15 and no response was considered as "not attending the trip." You have until September 1 to respond or your student will not be able to attend. For those attending, the non-refundable down payment of $200 is due by September 1. Please get your payment to Jim Holtrop before the 1st. Since we are using Joshua Expeditions this year, anyone without a down payment at this time will not be able to attend. Joshua Expeditions will not allow additions after September 1. Please contact Jim Holtrop via email or 630-562-7552 with any questions. We would love to have your student come on this trip!

New Dean of Students
Andrew Tink has assumed the new role of Dean of Students. This is his fifth year teaching at Wheaton Academy, and he is excited to continue to work with students and shape the culture of the school.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact Andrew Tink via email or 630-562-7587.

Meeting for Families Hosting French Students
There will be a meeting on Tuesday, Sept 7 at 6:30 p.m. for those families who are hosting a student from France in September. Contact Lynnette Lang with any questions.

Allergy Policy Reminder
As we begin the new school year, please remember that Wheaton Academy has an allergy policy, specifically regarding peanuts. Please reacquaint yourself with the policy. There will be a few tables in the Commons where students may eat nut products during their lunch period. Those tables will be clearly marked as a “peanut zone.” Nut products are restricted to those tables and students should wash their hands upon leaving that area. We ask that all classroom snacks, teacher treats and food provided for school events be nut free. Thanks for your help in ensuring that our school is a safe environment.

Driver’s Ed

In an effort to accommodate student schedules and extracurricular activities, beginning in the Fall of 2010, Wheaton Academy will begin offering after school driver’s education courses. The after school schedule is designed to allow students to take an extra academic class during the semester and also accommodate athletes’ busy schedules. Two classes will be offered each semester that will run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. The first fall session will run from September 7 to October 14, 2010. The second fall session will run from October 25 to December 2, 2010. For information on class schedules, pricing and availability, please call 630-983 -9235 or visit www.exceldrivingschool.com.

Many trips have been announced for Winterim 2011.  Click here for a list of the trips. Contact the trip leader for applications and additional details.

Attention Juniors and Seniors: Important Winterim Internships
NOW is the time to think about planning internships and making contact with prospective internship hosts.  In addition to the excellent contacts you may have in the Chicagoland area, be mindful of those contacts you have outside the area.  Whether it is a grandparent, former neighbor, cousin, older brother/sister, or just a business contact, most opportunities for internships come from personal contacts. Deadlines for Winterim scheduling will arrive more quickly than expected, so begin NOW.

Please note the following deadlines:

These forms are available on the Wheaton Academy website. Questions regarding internships may be directed to Kiernan Mack, Winterim internship coordinator, at kmack@wheatonacademy.org.

The China Trip for Winterim 2011
The deadline for the China trip applications is September 3, 2010. More people need to turn in their applications in order for this trip to be a guarantee. If you have an application and are interested, please turn it in. Questions? Contact Nate Leman via email.
