What motivated you to become a teacher?

My teachers motivated me to become a teacher. I’ve had many significant experiences during my education, some positive some negative, some encouraging and some discouraging. For a while, I ran from the idea of being a teacher. My parents (aka my first teachers) are both in higher education, and I wanted to write my own narrative independent of theirs. The Ultimate Teacher eventually roped me in halfway through university, though, and now I hope to foster those positive moments for my own students.

What are your favorite moments with students?

It’s hard to narrow it down. “Aha!” moments are great; moments of laughter are great; moments of seeing a student’s hard work pay off on an exam or assignment are great. I guess I’m in the right profession, because even the hardest moments have some good in them!

What is the most important life lesson you want your students to learn in your class?

With God, all things are possible.

Why are you passionate about the subject(s) that you teach? *

Math is incredibly underrated, highly feared, and potentially arduous. It is also spectacularly beautiful, universally accessible, and inherently divine. Each of these characteristics fuel my desire to teach mathematics and teach it well.

What advice do you have for parents considering Christian education?

Christian education has the potential to provide students with wonderful peers, mentors, and experiences. I would encourage parents to challenge their students in their journey through healthy discussion and conversation in and out of the classroom.
