Class Activities and Events

Class Sponsors: Cassie Prempas, Scott Broman, Valerie Gregersen, & Leah Rinker

Advisory Curriculum Leaders: Matt Hockett & Dan Nicholas

Participants: Unlimited

Open to: Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors

Season Dates: All year. Homecoming events, class chapels, and many other activities throughout the year

Weekly Schedule: Weekly advisory groups, determined by scheduled events. Opportunities for participation will be announced throughout the year.

Cost: Varies by event

Special Factors: Have a desire to volunteer, serve, and lead

National Honor Society

Originally Chartered in 1934

Sponsors: Trish Main

Participants: Unlimited. Participants who meet the criteria listed below are invited to apply in the fall. A committee will consider applications and determine acceptance.

Season Dates: Induction ceremony in November, year-round responsibilities

Weekly Schedule: None. Students are required to complete ten (10) hours of off-campus service and serve at one (1) WA on-campus event before the end of the school year.

Cost: None

Special Factors: Juniors & seniors who have been enrolled full time at Wheaton Academy for at least 2 semesters and meet the high standards of scholarship (minimum of 3.6 cumulative GPA) Christian character, leadership, and service.

Project LEAD

Mission Statement: To learn and practice Kingdom leadership in the context of our campus, local, and global communities

Sponsors:

General Project LEAD questions should be directed to Jeff Brooke, Vice Principal for Campus Life.

Participants: Unlimited. Participants are chosen by application and acceptance in April of students’ junior year

Open to: Seniors—application and interview process completed by the end of junior year

Season Dates: Mid-April of students’ junior year to late-May senior year

Weekly Schedule: 4-8 hours/week; evening meetings every two weeks. Retreat in August. Participation in student activities and spiritual life at Wheaton Academy expected regularly.

Cost: Approximately $80-100 for various items and activities

Special Factors: Seniors will provide student leadership for underclassmen students at WA and in our local and global communities.

Parent Participation: None

Student Council

Participants: Participants are chosen by application and acceptance in the spring of the previous school year

Open to: Sophomores, juniors, and seniors

Season Dates: August-May

Weekly Schedule: Meetings twice a month during lunch; extra meetings during Homecoming

Cost: None

Special Factors: Must attend all student activities, including Homecoming and Christmas Soiree.

Parent Participation: None

Student Reps

Sponsors: Brittany Klenke

Participants: 45. Participants are chosen by application in May of the previous school year

Open to: Sophomores, juniors, and seniors

Season Dates: All year

Weekly Schedule: As able to participate

Cost: $20 for shirt

Special Factors: Separate evening and daytime events

Worship Team

Sponsor: Evan Jasper & Charity Renwick

Participants: 14-18. Participants are chosen by application and audition in the spring of the previous year

Open to: Sophomores, juniors, and seniors

Season Dates: August retreat; active during the entire school year

Weekly Schedule: 2-hour evening rehearsals; 7:15 a.m. on days when playing in chapel

Cost: Approximately $50 for various items and activities

Special Factors: None

Parent Participation: Parents are encouraged to attend 1-2 dinners as we pray regularly for the team.

Round Tables

Sponsor: Leah Rinker, Scott Broman, Cassie Prempas, Valerie Gregersen

Participants: 10-15 per class level

Open to: Freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors

Season Dates: All year

Schedule: Lunch meeting once per month

Cost: None

Special Factors: Members will be meeting to organize ideas to unite their class community, as well as the school community. Members will also sponsor one/two fundraisers to raise funds for their class Senior Trip.
