Josh teaches Engineering and Design at Wheaton Academy, where he leads the Academy by Design program and oversees the IDEA Lab, the Academy’s design and fabrication space. He also serves as Director of Instructional Technology, guiding how WA students and teachers use technology for learning, from the school’s 1:1 device program to its approach to AI in the classroom. Josh joined the Wheaton Academy faculty in 1997 and, across nearly three decades, has taught Computer Science, Social Studies, Engineering, and Design. Josh has authored curriculum in all of these disciplines, the latest being in the area of design thinking. Outside the classroom, you’ll find him building sets for the drama productions his wife directs and sponsoring Makers Club. Also, Josh paints small miniatures for fun.
His path into teaching design started with the conviction that every student, whatever their interests, should learn design thinking. Design gives students the chance to apply what they’ve learned elsewhere, stretches them to think in new ways, and, most importantly, pulls their attention outward by serving others through their design solutions and to love their neighbor as Jesus commanded.
