Celebrating Dr. Frost

Gene Frost

As part of the Homecoming activities, the Academy held a Celebration of Service for Dr. Gene Frost ’71 on Saturday, October 9. Gene’s service spans seven decades, from a  WA freshman in 1967 to the executive director of the Wheaton Academy Foundation today. His commitment in the intervening years includes roles as teacher, coach, board trustee, parent, and head of school. The event was not a retirement party but a tribute to this remarkable man’s dedication to the school he loves.

The afternoon was a nostalgic journey down memory lane with a few surprises and revelations along the way. First, lifelong friend Al Mojonnier ’71 shared his childhood recollections of meeting Junior (as Gene was known back then) in 3rd grade at Wheaton Christian Grammar School and the ensuing years as Junior’s classmate. Next, Greg Cox ’82 detailed what it was like being a student in Gene’s classroom. Finally, Don Adams spoke of how God has used Gene and his gifts to benefit the Academy.

The tributes also included a well-deserved acknowledgment of the role his wife Barb has played. Barb Frost has served the Academy faithfully as the longtime accompanist to WA choirs and Gene’s assistant. While her contributions to the Academy have been mainly behind the scenes, she is a treasure and a blessing to the WA community.

It’s not too late to submit a favorite memory or your well wishes to Dr. Frost.
