Congratulations, Class of 2025!

Each spring, we ask our seniors a few questions about their experience at Wheaton Academy. This is what students from the Class of 2025 had to say.

Analeigh Hoogerheide

“Teachers, coaches, and directors held me to a high standard of excellence so I could grow in my talents and abilities for the glory of God. In every class—from core subjects like Math and Science to electives like choir and pottery—my teachers actively pushed me. I learned the art of discipline in my classroom work, on the court, and on the stage. I learned that a good education is one that pushes me to my limit because that is where growth occurs.”

How have you personally experienced our mission during your time at Wheaton Academy?

“I have been challenged to use my talents and abilities to serve others as Christ has served us. Wheaton Academy offers many opportunities to serve, not just at our school but also in our surrounding community. I had the opportunity to tutor kids at a local elementary school, travel to Nicaragua on a missions trip, and serve during our school musicals.”

Analeigh plans to attend Wheaton College where she will compete on the Tennis team.

Everett Miglio

“In my four years as a student at Wheaton Academy, I’ve been challenged to perform at my best for the glory of God in the classroom, on athletic teams, and in co-curricular clubs. Wheaton Academy instills a unique love for learning, especially in science classes. Ultimately, my high school experience has served to prepare me, both academically and spiritually, to continue my education at the University of Notre Dame.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“My most memorable class was Topics in Science and Biblical Truth with Dr. Regan. This class has a strong focus on philosophical inquiry and analysis, and a unique commitment to understanding diverse perspectives regarding truth, beauty, and the natural world.”

Everett plans to study Biological And Biomedical Sciences at the University of Notre Dame.

Isi Aroko

“At Wheaton Academy, I have been challenged in my relationship with the Lord when my faith was strong, and I have been built back up when my faith was weak. The teachers work incredibly hard to build relationships with their students so there is always someone to come to if you need anything. I would share this word of encouragement with future students: do not hesitate to ask for help if you are struggling during your time at Wheaton Academy. You will be met with loving and helpful hands.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“My track season was incredible because of the community we built on the team. I felt as though all the girls on the team were constant cheerleaders, when I was doing my best and when I was doing my worst. The community from track carried me throughout the school year because it connected me with some of my best friends.”

Isi plans to study Special Education and Teaching at North Central College where she will compete on the Track and Field team.

Allison Branecki

“Going into my freshman year, my faith wasn’t very strong. But it was clear that something was different about the faculty and students here compared to what I experienced at public school. It didn’t take long for me to realize that the difference was Jesus. I found the Lord in the back of chapel that first year as I felt God speaking directly to me through the messages. My faith grew exponentially and I chose to be baptized my junior year. I’m forever grateful that God led me to this school and continues to work in my heart.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“The class that has been most memorable to me would have to be WATV. This class rekindled a love for media and editing that I had as a kid. When I joined, we were producing episodes out of two small office spaces. Now our space has upgraded to a professional studio with high-quality equipment. It’s been such a blessing to see the school invest in this course and in me. Media is my dream career and it’s what I plan on majoring in next year!”

Allison plans to study Communications and Journalism at Ball State University.

“Teachers at Wheaton Academy are the best. They care about each student and their academic success as well as their faith in Christ. They have a very strong personal faith and want the same for all their students. They are super passionate about the subjects that they teach, striving for excellence in every second of every lesson.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“My passion for playing the drums and releasing music started to take off when I took a Percussion Studies class during my junior year. I took it again senior year because I loved it so much. Mr. Willemssen builds an amazing class culture! Because of this class, I overcame my fear of performing live on stage in front of hundreds of people.”

Caleb plans to attend the College of DuPage.

“My relationship with Christ flourished here at Wheaton Academy. Each day, my teachers and peers pushed me to create a deeper connection with Christ through His Word. I have experienced firsthand the impact my peers have had on my faith and how they have helped me understand how Christ works through community. Thanks to the community here I recently took the next step in my faith journey and was baptized this past October.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“I have loved being on the girl’s volleyball team for the past four years. I made lifelong friends and grew in my relationship with Christ through this sport. Our world today bases worth on success and the absence of mistakes. Yet through God’s Word, we see our true worth is from Him and not based on our performance. I couldn’t be more thankful for a community that emphasizes this fact and encourages me to grow in my faith every day.”

Mary Patrick plans to study Business at Wheaton College where she will compete on the Volleyball team.

Madi Jenkins

“When I came to Wheaton Academy as a freshman, I was so scared of change. I’d been a public-school kid my whole life. Initially, I had planned to attend a public high school too, but my brother graduated from Wheaton Academy and he was a big role model for me, so I decided to give it a try. When I enrolled, I described myself as an atheist, but I gave my life to Christ during my junior year. Wheaton Academy brought me back to my faith an all-time low and I continuously thank God for this school. If I could give some advice to my freshman self, I would tell her to have an open heart in Bible classes and not take them for granted. Mr. Hogan, one of my Bible teachers who encouraged me throughout my faith journey, was by my side at my baptism.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“I will never forget the track and field team. More specifically, the coaches want to build a relationship with you and invest in you academically, athletically, mentally, and spiritually. It felt great that during my time here, the coaches cared about me as a person, not just someone who scores points at meets.”

Madi plans to attend Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida.

“My freshman year, I was selected to be a part of a cohort called Academy by Design. Through this course, I learned to solve problems through a Human-Centered Design approach, which helps students identify and understand the needs, desires, and experiences of users, ultimately helping us create efficient solutions to any problem. Through Mr. Burick’s teaching, guidance, and unconditional love for students, I have learned important soft and technical skills, like empathy, critical thinking, and effective communication.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“I was able to commentate the 2024 homecoming football game livestream while taking the Sports Broadcasting class as a senior. From the moment I started that class, I knew I wanted live on air, but fear that stopped me from doing it. It was only through the encouragement and guidance of Ms. Burick and Mr. Smith that I built up the courage to try it. That night showed me that one of my greatest obstacles is my own fear and doubt. If you let those take control, you’ll miss out on the joys of life.”

Jakin plans to attend Marquette University.

“During my time at Wheaton Academy, I have grown so much, not just academically but also spiritually and personally. I have experienced the blessing of new friendships that have encouraged me and shaped me into a better person. My friends and the Wheaton Academy community have motivated me to grow closer to God, strengthening my faith and inspiring me to live with purpose.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

For me, it’s football and Mr. Hogan’s Bible class. Football has been a staple in my life and has shaped me into the person I am today. It has helped me mature and deal with real world situations. Also, Mr. Hogan’s 5th period Bible class class helped me to grow my faith. Whether it’s reading from the Word or just hearing Mr. Hogan share, I always come away with a better understanding of the message.

“One way I have grown spiritually at Wheaton Academy is through the Winterim Trips. My senior year, I traveled to Nicaragua on a missions trip and it changed how I viewed my relationship with the Lord. Seeing God’s creation and His people in another part of the world opened my eyes to God’s vastness and power and it reminded me how important it is to be in God’s Word and open my heart to Him. “

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“Being a part of the girls soccer team for four years has been the biggest blessing! I will cherish relationships I built with coaches and teammates for a long time. The coaches pour into every athlete and push them to seek excellence, not only on the field, but in all areas of life. The hard-working yet encouraging environment was built by the love we share for one another, while also holding each other accountable for mistakes. Participating in devotions and worshiping the Lord before a game is not an experience everyone gets to have, and that has left a major impact on my life.”

Elly Andrews plans to study Psychology at Simpson College where she will compete on the Soccer team.

“God steered me towards Wheaton Academy when I had previously wanted to attend another school. Looking back, I’m so grateful that this is where he led me. When I first arrived, I was quiet and hesitant to get involved, but over the years, I’ve grown in confidence, faith, and my willingness to step into new opportunities. Through Bible classes, I’ve learned how to truly study God’s word, and through the amazing teachers and community, I’ve been encouraged to live out my faith daily.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“Without a doubt the most memorable and influential co-curricular that I have been involved in is the Theatre program. I’ve been blessed to be part of four shows, and through them, I’ve grown in my acting skills while learning to perform in a way that honors Christ. The theatre community here is incredible—it feels like a family, always welcoming new members and building relationships across all grades.”

Joshua plans to study Psychology at Indiana Wesleyan University.

“The greatest lesson I have learned at Wheaton Academy is to choose friends that will love and encourage you not only in what you accomplish in your day to day life, but also in your faith and relationship with Jesus. You will become more like your friends so I have learned to invest in the relationships that bring me closer to the Father.

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“The most memorable part of my four years at Wheaton Academy is being a part of the cast of Singin’ in the Rain. Every rehearsal felt like a space where everyone belonged and loved each other.”

Rilee plans to study Nursing at Olivet Nazarene University.

Joel Baarman

“I was baptized in eighth grade and I knew that my salvation was secure in Jesus Christ heading into high school. Wheaton Academy chapels, teachers, and classes continued to help me defend my faith from worldly culture and fully understand what being a follower of Christ really means.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“WA has so many classes and co-curricular activities to choose from that no one should be left without the ability to explore their interests. For me, sports played a big role in my high school career. I was able to play on the golf, soccer, basketball, and volleyball teams while having a diverse schedule which contained Intro to Ceramics as well as AP BC Calculus. However the activity that stood out the most, was when the basketball team went to the Dominican Republic to serve with GO Ministries. It was such a life changing experience to serve others in the DR with my teammates.”

Joel plans to attend Western Michigan University.

“When I think about who I was freshman year, it’s like I’m thinking about a completely different person. When I came to Wheaton Academy, I was lost in where I found my identity. Junior year is when I gave the reins of my life over to Christ and my life truly flipped upside down. Today, my identity is solely found in Christ. The advice I would give to my freshman self is that it’s okay to feel lost, but the most important thing to do when you feel lost is surround yourself with people who are searching for the same thing as you. Surround yourself with people who are yearning for a relationship with the Lord and you will find God.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“Participating in Newsies during my Junior year is one of my favorite memories. This show holds a special place in my heart. Being a dancer in it was an amazing experience. The choreography was incredible and the story is so impactful, to not just me as a cast member but to the audience as well. God calls us to use our gifts to make an impact, and I feel like this show was one way to do that.”

Mary plans to study nursing at North Park University.

“I adore all of my teachers! Each one is really, truly interested in who I am as a person. The people who work here—it doesn’t feel like they’re here because they get paid to do a job. They are here because they want to be. They are here because they want to make an impact. And they do. In my life, it makes a big difference in the simple highs and low, like asking how I’m doing or showing interest in my culture. For example, one day Mrs. Grant said to me, ‘Metti, I don’t think we have your country’s flag in the atrium.’ And the next day, she personally bought the flag and got it hung up. That was a really big thing for me. I have felt more welcome at Wheaton Academy than I’ve ever felt in a place before.”

“Each teacher at Wheaton Academy is extremely intentional about knowing their students and building relationships with us. I’ve had teachers call out gifts and leadership skills that I didn’t know I possessed, provide opportunities to develop these gifts, and mentor me in ways that helped me develop a humble heart of a servant leader.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“When I first joined the Worship Team as a sophomore, I was blessed to be surrounded by talented upperclassmen musicians and vocalists whose spiritual and emotional maturity deeply impacted me. While their musical gifts inspired me to continue to grow in my abilities to play on the team, their humble posture while leading the school in musical worship was a profound example. They didn’t seek to ‘perform’ or draw attention to themselves, but rather to quietly and humbly use their gifts to glorify God. Through my years on worship team, I’ve learned the value of a humble posture as a musician. I’ve learned how to use my gifts of playing guitar and singing to create opportunities for others to enter and experience a collective space of worship.”

Ella plans to study psychology at Wheaton College.

Colby Fung

“I was forced to take my faith seriously as a high school student. Wheaton Academy challenged me to research and pursue what I believe. I was baptized my sophomore year primarily due to encouragement from peers and teachers.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“I will never forget the impact the lacrosse team has made on my life here. The coaching staff made me tougher and better, both physically and mentally. The brotherhood I experienced with my teammates throughout my time here is rare and valuable. The lacrosse team is a tight bunch and showed me how a real team is supposed to work. We support each other when we’re down and celebrate together when we win.”

“At Wheaton Academy, God revealed how awesome He is to me through music. I have seen Him move in people’s hearts through simple notes and melodies that I have been privileged to play. I feel closer to the Lord when I am playing my instruments. Music has become an act of worship for me.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“Band has been the most memorable co-curricular experience for me. Every concert, jazz band, pep band, and even band class brings me joy. Before high school, I was going to quit music altogether, but then I came here and discovered Wheaton Academy’s instrumental program. Mr. Willemssen created the most welcoming community I have ever been a part of and has influenced me more than any adult in my life. I would encourage anyone who is considering Wheaton Academy to join the band because it truly changed my life for the better. Because of the band and Mr. Willemssen, I want to pursue a career in music education!”

Rebekah plans to attend Biola University.

Kennedy Hendricks

“One important lesson I have learned at Wheaton Academy is that it is okay to be your authentic self. There are so many people in this community with different backgrounds to learn and explore. At times, I found myself trying to blend in with others leading me to forget the bold, strong, and beautiful woman that is growing inside me. When people see me today, I hope they see a version of me who does not have to pretend. The version who only desires to grow in who she already is: a fearfully and wonderfully made child of the most high.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“I would have to say that Musical Theatre Studies was most memorable. It’s where I learned to love drama. We performed the show Little Mermaid for class, and that experience unlocked something I hadn’t known about myself—it felt so magical. In many ways, it made me who I am today.”

“Teachers here push you to succeed no matter what subject is at hand. Every subject is viewed with high importance. You will be encouraged to do well whether in the lab while mixing chemicals or on the stage while singing and dancing. The greatest lesson I have learned in classes here is that the Biblical mind does not conflict with the scientific one. Instead, they go hand in hand.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“My most memorable class was Spanish II and III with Mrs. Hands. She creates a learning environment in her classes that allows students to be expressive of their unique personalities through the language of Spanish. The culture in her class is uplifting. She is always seeking out opportunities to pray for her students, including me, and truly gets to know our life stories. She has inspired me to be a better listener.”

“My time at Wheaton Academy played a crucial role in my faith journey. Through Bible classes, I was able to dive further into learning what I believe and why I believe it, all while surrounding myself with people who hold me accountable and uplift me in my walk with Christ. It’s evident that Faith is the cornerstone of all curriculum and community at Wheaton Academy. Coming from a public school, that is what made WA stand out to me.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“I have loved being part of the softball team at Wheaton Academy. The deep relationships I formed with my teammates and coaches not only pushed me to be a better player, but also to grow in character. I love how the coaches make it a priority to incorporate faith with improving athletically, whether through devotionals, Bible studies, or prayer.”

Alex Schuldt

“At first, I wasn’t sure I wanted to go to Wheaton Academy, but after 4 years here I can say without a doubt that it was the right choice. My friend group grew each year with people I know I will value for the rest of my life. Wheaton Academy gave me new opportunities I never thought I would experience in high school, from speaking a different language around the corner from the school to sledding on the tops of mountains halfway across the globe. Every year held memories that I will never forget.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“Over the course of my four years at Wheaton Academy, I have been a part of the Academy by Design cohort. This program focuses on human centered design and has been instrumental in developing design thinking skills as I move into the next phase of my education, and hopefully into a career in design.”

Alex plans to study Industrial and Innovative Design at Cedarville University.

Kolonati Zibaya

“I have grown both mentally and physically, but most of all spiritually. I have seen how serving others doesn’t only benefit the other person but also grows maturity in me. I have learned that whatever I choose to do as a career, it needs to glorify God.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“Football is at the top of my list. My coaches are more than coaches, they have become my uncles, brothers, and dads. They have poured into me even more off the field than on the field.”

“At Wheaton Academy, I have been challenged through difficult curriculum, uplifted by dedicated faculty, and supported by the most amazing community I’ve ever experienced. But most of all, I have grown in my faith. After encountering God in a personal way my junior year, I have learned that I don’t have to endlessly strive for perfection, but instead rest in Christ’s sufficiency on the cross. I have learned what it means to surrender to Jesus daily, and let him lead my life.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“I have been particularly blessed to dance with the Furnace Company dance team all four years of high school. It has been amazing to show how God changes lives through the medium of dance!”

Caleb Diego

“I didn’t grow up in a religious household and I didn’t want to hear about God my freshman year. Today, as a senior, I have honestly and fully committed life to My Lord and Savior.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“Football is one of them. On the football team, I get to suit up with the men who I call my brothers. Having Mr. Ellis as my Anatomy teacher was also a memorable experience for me because he always supported me and inspired me to major in biology on the Pre-Med track in college.”

“At Wheaton Academy, God has spoken to me through others. I’ve learned how kindness towards everyone I encounter makes an impact on them, me, and the Lord’s kingdom.”

Of your classes or co-curricular activities, which one is the most memorable and why?

“Wheaton Academy Theatre didn’t just make me better at singing and acting. It gave me credence in myself to pursue the arts for God’s glory, ultimately building my skill set. The teachers and adults who partner with our theatre program give their whole selves. Throughout rehearsals and performances, they serve as a steady rock for the cast and crew to rely on and look up to- regardless of the situation.”
