Fine Arts Department Head, Instrumental Arts Faculty
At WA since 2007
BME, Valparaiso University
MM, Northwestern University
Steve Willemssen began teaching at Wheaton Academy in 2007 after having taught public school in Naperville for 6 years. He is a graduate of Valparaiso University (BME) and Northwestern University (MM). In addition to guiding students towards growth in musicianship, his passion is seeing students connect their skills with service to others. The annual instrumental tour and Guatemala Winterim trip have been annual highlights. Steve grew up playing piano and violin, and in high school had a dream of one day conducting shows on Broadway; he is thankful that he gets to conduct the pit orchestra at WA instead – an example of the delight of getting to walk through so many wonderful experiences with so many amazing students. Steve is married to Katie, who is also a musician, and they have four kids. Steve & Katie work together at Wheaton Bible Church, where they lead worship together.
