Math Team Wins First-Ever State Championship
On Saturday, April 27, Wheaton Academy’s Math Team made history, winning the ICTM Division 2A State Championship at Illinois State University, the first state title in program history.
Three years ago, Wheaton Academy Mathletes entered the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) contest for the first time. Each year since, they have steadily advanced, finishing 8th, then 5th, then 3rd. This year, the team had a goal to finish in the top two.
Throughout the day, our Mathletes delivered outstanding performances across multiple events:
- Algebra I Team – 1st Place
- Precalculus Team – 1st Place
- Calculator Team – 1st Place
- Oral Competition – 1st Place with a perfect score
- Algebra II Team – 2nd Place
- Junior/Senior 8-Person Team – 2nd Place
- And several additional Top-10 finishes in individual and team events.
During the awards ceremony, emotions ran high as the top ten schools were announced. Coach Roys shared, “We heard the winners for 10th place through 4th place, and Wheaton Academy had not yet been named. When Lake Forest Academy, last year’s champion, was announced in 3rd, the moment of victory was close.” Then, the celebration erupted as Wheaton Academy was named the 2025 Division 2A State Champion.
Congratulations to our Warrior Mathletes for exemplifying Wheaton Academy’s mission to pursue excellence to the glory of God. We are proud of you!
