Six Seniors Named National Merit Semi-Finalists

National Merit Scholarship Program

Congratulations to Wheaton Academy’s National Merit Semi-Finalists Miriam Buursma, Robert Dieter, Ellen Shales, Valerie Terdina, Joseph Wang, and Jacob Williams! This award recognizes academically exceptional students and sets them apart in the college application process.

Over 1.5 million juniors entered the competition last year by taking the PSAT exam in October. Approximately sixteen thousand of these students—less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors—were selected as semifinalists in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship program. Next spring, these seniors will have the opportunity to compete for scholarships worth over 30 million dollars.

College Counselor, Bart Gregersen shares his excitement for our students’ achievement, “In a typical class of 160 students, we will have one or two semifinalists from year to year.  It is astounding that six of our seniors have achieved this award in the same year while several much larger public schools nearby have only two to four semifinalists.”

As a standard bearer for academic excellence among private Christian schools, Wheaton Academy is committed to providing an unmatched educational experience. Don’t just take our word for it—we’ve been named a high performing National Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education. When students leave, Wheaton Academy, they are prepared—academically and spiritually—for the next chapter.
